Filed By: GOVERNOR OF MAINE
Filed Date: 2/16/2010
Accession No: 20100318-0020
Description: Comments of Govenor of Maine John Baldacci re the proposed Downeast LNG Project under CP07-52.

Summary: Maine Governor Baldacci wrote on January 29 to FERC Chair Jon Wellinghoff and the other members of the Commission. In his letter, Baldacci grouses that FERC is delaying release of the Downeast LNG Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS).

Webmaster’s Comments: Gov. Baldacci obviously is ill informed. It is not FERC that is holding back the FEIS; it is Downeast LNG's inability to provide answers to FERC's questions that arose out of the Draft EIS.

Downeast LNG has now taken over 8 months to provide those answers that were due on 2009 July 6.

Baldacci previously promised to not become personally involved in the LNG permitting process; that he would allow the permitting process to work. Now that Downeast LNG is having difficulty complying with permitting requirements, Baldacci has broken his promise in an attempt to pervert the FERC permitting process.
