Jun 12 | Issued By: ENERGY PROJECTS, OFFICE OF [FERC] Summary: FERC asks NOAA Fisheries to concur with FERC's decision that the Downeast LNG project would not adversely affect Atlantic and shortnose sturgeons, Atlantic salmon, leatherback sea turtle, and North Atlantic right, sei, blue, fin, humpback, and sperm whales or the designated critical habitat for the North Atlantic right whale. Filed By: Save Passamaquoddy Bay Summary: FERC's letter of 2013 June 12, Accession No. 20130612-3034, asks NOAA to agree that Downeast LNG would not adversely impact endangered species, and includes 15 conditions that DeLNG would need to observe; however, FERC ignores the known toxins in the waterway bottom that would be reintroduced into the water column by pier and trestle construction — contaminating biota that is food for endangered species. Therefore, endangered species would, indeed, be adversely impacted by Downeast LNG. Also, FERC indicates that the listed conditions must be observed in Grand Manan Channel and in the Bay of Fundy west of Grand Manan; however, FERC makes no conditions for transiting Head Harbour Passage and in Passamaquoddy Bay. Save Passamaquoddy Bay is contacting numerous whale expert organizations, indiginous peoples organizations, and news media, requesting that they respond to FERC's seriously flawed conclusions. |
Jun 14 | Filed By: Save Passamaquoddy Bay Summary: Save Passamaquoddy Bay observes that FERC has failed its National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) obligations regarding Passamaquoddy Nation health, safety, and culture; and, that the proposed Downeast LNG project violates those NEPA requirements. Thus, FERC must deny Downeast LNG's permits. |
Jun 20 | Filed By: Save Passamaquoddy Bay Summary: Testimony by fishermen that was presented in the 2007 Maine Board of Environmental Protection Downeast LNG hearing is provided. Included is Downeast LNG's overt demonstration of lack of purpose, and that Downeast LNG permitting violates US Environmental Justice and fairness requirements. Filed By: Save Passamaquoddy Bay Summary: Expert testimony from the 2007 Maine Board of Environmental Protection Downeast LNG hearing is provided, demonstrating the inappropriateness of Downeast LNG's proposed terminal site. Filed By: Save Passamaquoddy Bay Summary: The Whole Bay Study , as well as Yellow Wood Associates' principle researcher Shanna Ratner's testimony to the 2007 Maine Board of Environmental Protection Downeast LNG hearing, is provided. The study and testimony evidence the inappropriateness of Downeast LNG's proposed project under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and federal Environmental Justice requirements. Issued By: CHAIR AND IMMEDIATE STAFF (CHAIR) [FERC] Summary: FERC Chairman Wellinghoff replies to Canada's Ambassador Doer that FERC has a legal obligation to complete Downeast LNG's permit application processing, and encourages Canadians to participate in the FERC process. |
Jun 21 | Filed By: Save Passamaquoddy Bay Summary: FERC Chairman Wellinghoff's June 20 claim that FERC has a legal obligation to process Downeast LNG's applications is fraudulent, and continued Downeast LNG permit processing is improper. |
